Since 1992, our lawyers have regularly represented clients before all three divisions of the Immigration and Refugee Board. Which immigration category should you apply under?
Canadian Immigration Lawyers at Smeets Law have been working with Canadian immigration clients since 1992, helping applicants select the best immigration category, and then assisting them through the entire immigration process.
Business category – Business Immigration
If you are an entrepreneur hoping to immigrate to Canada, Canada’s Business Immigration Program may be ideal for you. After consultation with an immigration lawyer at Smeets Law, and depending on your assets and work experience, we can help you apply to immigrate in the self-employed, entrepreneur, or investor category. If successful, you and your immediate family can secure Canadian immigration visas.
Smeets Law will help you fulfill the numerous pre-application business immigration requirements, including: establishing or acquiring a percentage of equity in a qualifying Canadian business; establishing the fact that you will be actively managing that business; and establishing that the business will create at least one new job for a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident.
Skilled worker category
If you speak English or French, are an entrepreneur with a post-secondary graduate degree, have several years of professional work experience, and have aspirations to immigrate to Canada, a Federal Skilled Worker application may be ideal for you.
Smeets Law has helped many applicants through the applicant selection and scoring process. Under the Canada Federal Skilled Worker (Professional) category, immigration applications are evaluated and scored on six aspects in order to qualify for Canadian permanent resident status, as follows:
1. Age (10 points)
2. Education (25 points)
3. Work experience (24 points)
4. Language skills (English and French) (21 points)
5. Arranged employment (10 points)
6. Adaptability (10 points)
Successful applicants must score at least 67 points. However, no matter how many points are awarded, Canadian Immigration Visa Officers have the power to accept or deny an application based on a secondary, arbitrary basis. Before applying, consult an Immigration Lawyer at Smeets Law first.
Family class sponsorship
If you are married or living in a common-law relationship with a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, a lawyer at Smeets Law can help you to apply in the Family Class category.
To help families who come from other countries to reunite in Canada, Citizenship and Immigration Canada has developed the Family Class and Spousal sponsorship Canada process. Under this category, if you are a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident of Canada, you can sponsor your spouse, common-law partner, conjugal partner, dependent child (including adopted child), or other eligible relative (such as a parent or grandparent), to become a permanent resident. As a permanent resident, you can live, study, and work in Canada.
Lawyers at Smeets Law have assisted many clients through the complex family sponsorship process, helping reunite many families. Before applying under the Family Class category, contact a Canadian Immigration Lawyer at Smeets Law.
